Chris Messina wrote an exhaustive piece about what he is calling ‘conversational commerce’, where the capability to buy things is being baked into chat apps in the form of command-line-style microsyntax, or speech commands in voice apps, or invisible AI ‘bots that we communicate with by email or chat. This is a trend getting a great deal of attention, with folks like like Connie Chan, Benedict Evans, Sam Lessin, and others. Oh, and me.
